Are you an SSD dancer with at least six months of experience? Ready to take on a new challenge by learning Mainstream and Plus? Our next class is just for you!

We’re offering a “bridge” class, taking experienced SSD dancers up to the Plus level of square dancing. This will be an APD/DBD class, and we will cover the remaining calls in Mainstream that didn’t make it into SSD, along with all of the calls in Plus.

We will meet weekly at Fruitridge Community & Aquatic Center (4000 Fruitridge Rd, Sacramento, CA 95820) on Wednesdays from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM. The first class will be held February 19th, 2025.

We’re anticipating this class will take about 20 weeks, not including nights off for holidays, and the occasional review night. The cost for this class is $25.00/month per dancer. (Capital City Squares members who are paying monthly dues do not have to pay extra.)

By the end of the class, you’ll be dancing at the Plus level, including all related calls, terms, and concepts.

CCS will hold an SSD-to-Plus “bridge” class on Wednesday nights starting Feburary 19, 2025 and continuing for about 20 weeks.

Classes will start promptly at 7:30 PM and will run to 9:00 PM.

More about the class:

  1. What will I learn in this class?
    In this class, you’ll learn all of the Mainstream and Plus calls. By the end of the class, you’ll be able to dance at Plus level.

  2. Will you teach or review SSD?
    SSD (“Social Square Dancing” is a halfway point to full-level square dancing. While we may review a few specific calls from SSD, this class is intended for dancers who can already dance SSD, and want to learn Mainstream and Plus.

  3. How much is the class?
    The cost for the class is $25.00/month per dancer. There is no charge for Capital City Squares members who are already paying monthly club dues.

  4. Can I pay for the class with a credit or debit card?
    We can usually process charges at the door, using credit, debit, Apple Pay, or Google Pay using Square payments. If you’d like to pay the monthly class fee online, click here and select “CCS Monthly Dues $25.00”.

  5. Who’s teaching?
    Classes will be taught by our club caller, Allan Hurst. He will be assisted by experienced dancers, called "angels", who will pair up with students to help ensure a fun and successful class.

  6. How do I register?

    Just show up! CCS members will check in at the door as usual. Other dancers can check in at the door and pay the class fee.

  7. I don't have someone to dance with!
    In LGBTQ+ square dancing, you don't need to bring a dance partner. Just bring yourself and a smile. We'll pair you up with angels and other students so you'll get to dance with different folks in every tip!

  8. But I want to dance with someone specific?!
    For purposes of learning, we strongly suggest that students pair up with an angel whenever possible. However, if you prefer to dance with the same person repeatedly, that’s OK, too.

  9. What about food?
    We generally provide light snacks and water. Feel free to bring snacks to share if you like.

  10. How should I dress?
    There's no “dress code” in LGBTQ+ square dancing. Traditional square dance clothing is not required.

    Instead, like other LGBTQ+ clubs, we focus on comfort.

    Dress in loose clothing that allows you to move around easily and comfortably. Wear sensible shoes that are comfortable for standing and walking. Some folks like to wear especially thick socks for dance classes, to cushion the feet. Jeans and t-shirts are just fine, as are sweats, skirts, shorts, and slacks. Please, no strong fragrances.
